Study in Holland.

On this page you find general information about studying in The Netherlands. The Dutch system of Higher Education is roughly divided in two kinds of universities. There are the classical, academic universities, now called ‘Research universities’, who offer research-oriented programmes. And there are the more practical oriented universities, now called Universities of Applied Science.

Since a few years the education system has switched to the international Bachelor/Master system. Therefore most of the Master programmes are now being taught in English whereas the Bachelor programmes are more and more being taught in English. However, many of these are still in Dutch. After a Master’s degree one has the possibility to continue to study for a Ph.D. degree. These programmes are however only offered at the research universities. It depends on the availability of research positions as well as results of the master’s study.

Summer schools.

Summer schools are organized by Dutch universities as short specialized courses. People can study in a short period of 1 week up to 4 weeks a specific aspect of their field of study. Summerschools are for international students and are a good way to be introduced to the dutch way of teaching and Dutch student life.
