NIASD Summer Course Arabic 2010. This summer course will this year be delivered on six levels (Absolute beginners AB, beginners 1, beginners 2,  intermediate 1, intermediate 2, advanced) for, in total, 46 course students.

In the frame of the project “Cultural Participation for Heritage Regeneration”, a project funded by the delegation of the European Union to Syria and the Dutch Embassy, and coordinated by the Institut Français du Proche-Orient in partnership with the NIASD, the Danish Institute in Damascus and the Art Renaissance Association, the following activities take place in the Damascus Historical Museum at 18H00: Photo exhibition “Uqayba, Colours of a forgotten neighbourhood” (exhibitions continues until 27 June 2010) and the award ceremony for the two competitions “Bridging the gap: cultural heritage and educational resources” and “Art in the city: design of art works in public spaces”. This study visit was organized by the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Damascus in co-operation with the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Damascus.

Opening of the joint exhibition "Damascus Ahead!" of the Syrian artist Sawsan Al Zoubi and the Dutch artist Theo de Feyter. The opening takes place at the Al Shaab Hall for Fine Arts in the Fardos street in Damascus at 19:00. Study trip of 15 Dutch students and 2 professors of the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the University of Amsterdam to Syria for visits to the Faculty of International Relations and Diplomacy of the Kalamoon University in Deir Atiyah, Syria, and several organizations in Damascus, including the UNHCR, Al Watan newspaper, the Syrian Parliament, the Orient Center for Studies, and also the NIASD where on Saturday the 26th of January 2 lectures will take place. The NIASD supported the organization of this study trip.

The NIASD supported the organization of this study trip.

Work visit of Dr. L.J. Roborgh, Director General for Higher Education, Professional Education and Science, of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to the NIASD. The agenda of this visit includes: meeting with the Dutch staff of NIASD, meeting with the Vice Minister of Technical Affairs of the Syrian Ministry of Education, Dr. Fouad Ghalloul, and a work lunch at the residence of the Dutch Ambassador for which various representatives of the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education as well as other important players in the field of education are invited. Theme of this work lunch is the internationalization of higher education.

Dutch Film Week in the city of Homs. After 10 years the Cinema Club Homs is brought to live again, notably with a Dutch Film Week which was organized in cooperation with the NIASD. During the film week 5 Dutch movies are screened with Arabic subtitles (Northern Light, The Polish Bride, Dutch Light, The Sea That Thinks and Schnitzel Paradise). Upon the request of the Royal Netherlands Embassy, the NIASD organizes a lecture series and film series in Aleppo on the ocassion of 400 year Dutch consulate in Aleppo. Location: all lectures take place at the Directorate of Culture in Aleppo (close to the Sheraton). The films will be screened at the Directorate of Culture at 15:30 and at the Chahba Cham Cinema at 18:30. Languages: one lecture will be given in Arabic with English translation, all other lectures will be given in English, translated into Arabic, either by power point projection or simultaneously.
